Series

Nocturne's next contribution to west coast jazz was another Herbie Harper LP. This time a
mixture of Quartet and Quintet, Mr. Harper offers a collection of tunes by Marty Paich,
Bobby Troup, Nelson Riddle, Heal Hefti, and others and is joined by Bud Shank on the
quintet tracks. Marty Paich on piano and Al Hendrickson on guitar join the rhythms of
Roy Harte and Harry Babasin on drums and bass.

Another edition of the Nocturne collection is the Virgil Gonsalves Sextet. Featuring many
of the players from other Nocturne albums, this one adds leader Virgil Gonsalves on
baritone sax. The ensemble here is particularly well conceived; Buddy Wise, tenor sax,
Bob Enevoldsen, valve trombone, Lou Levy, piano, Harry Babasin, bass, and Larry
Bunker, drums.
